The story appears simple on the surface, but is revealed, especially after multiple viewings, as more multi-layered and textured than Cassavetes at his best. Ostensibly it concerns a 14-year old Catholic girl, Wynne (Agutter) growing up in this post-modern wasteland, who develops a crush on her much older adoptive brother (Marshall)- a crush which perversely deepens and grows into infatuation once she starts to believe he is the local sex killer. This is in itself an idea that makes you sit up and jolt, but as the narrative develops, it continues not necessarily along a linear path but in several confusing and fascinating directions: the family's history, (detailed effectively in chilling flashback during an improvised seance) is a chequered one, and has suffered at least one major relocation and upheaval in the last ten years. At the crux, however, it's the depiction of socialal changes that make I Start Counting so fascinating and elevate its language far beyond the confines of the standard horror film. The major subtext- that teenage girls were maturing more quickly than before, and developing full sexual and romantic appetites (even if in thought rather than deed) but were not possessed of enough discretion to make the right choices- was a step forward for a genre in which its young females had previously been portrayed as bimbo victims (Cover Girl Killer and The Night Caller spring to mind), but not one that all viewers would necessarily agree with. But most striking of all, and possibly the most enduring image which the viewer will take away with them, is of the masterful symbolism with which director Greene invests every shot. Every inch of the Kinch family's world- their house, their walls, their TV, Agutters underwear, bedroom furniture and toys, Sutcliffe's clothes, Marshalls van, the local Catholic church, their town centre, their record shop) - is painted a bright, scintillating white- a white which, by inference, is slowly becoming smudged and corrupted with the dirt of the outside world. White also symbolises, of course, purity and innocence (two qualities Catholic schoolgirls are supposed to hold dear), and it is into this world of innocence that the ever-present red bus (a symbol of violation and penetration), conducted by the lecherous yet similarly juvenile Simon Ward, makes regular journeys. The allegory is further expanded in one scene where Agutter believes she sees the Christ figure in church weeping blood: by the time we acknowledge it, its gone, but the seed has already been planted. Rarely in a genre production has the use of colour and background been so important or effective in creating a uniformity of mood. I Start Counting is as near-perfect an end to a decade as one could hope for, and exactly the kind of film people should be making now- which is, of course, exactly why they never will. 大概猜到了是大饼夹一切，可没想到是移民视角的八九十年代港片夹了个索拉里斯
这两天看到分数瞬降还有点担心。看完以后只想说导演太有才了！有个评论说得好，“这是想象力的胜利”。个人感觉喜剧效果非常美国化，不认为这是一代移民会欣赏的片子，中国元素就像是这里面中英夹杂的对话，非常表面化，内核还是美国文化。这个片子和《沙丘》应该是这几年看过的电影里的top two吧！有点感慨，我们忙着抗疫，人家不戴口罩“冒着生命危险”拍出了这么优秀的作品！
看似天马行空，实际花里胡哨，乱七八糟，故事稀碎，又臭又长。总结：浪费时间。
创意是有的，服化摄影也很棒，勉强给个四星。讯息量很大的一部电影，多重宇宙设定外加超感猎杀的混合。每个宇宙都想要说些什么，但是说教意味实在太重太白太满喷洒而出，没有超感猎杀安排得一切刚刚好，不多也不少的精彩。我就一直听他们看他们几个最后不断表演打脸、打脸，再打脸。
做哪吒不好吗？杀不了妈我杀自己还不行吗？和你妈解啊= =
节奏快，挺视觉轰炸的，看得比较累，有的梗挺好笑，但不是开怀大笑。跟《瑞士军刀男》的观感差不多：片子有点意思，但不会看第二遍。
当我失神没听见你说话时，我可能在另一个平行宇宙里处理重要的事。如果站在宇宙的高度，自然是Nothing matters。但我们只是宇宙中卑微的尘埃，所以必定还能找到自己的所爱。母女关系只是主题的一小部分，反倒没讲得这么简单透彻，可能这就是原生家庭爱恨交织说不清道不明吧。至于母女不睦会导致宇宙毁灭的逻辑，就不要深究了。
《面子》之后，又多了一部想和妈妈一起看却没有勇气看的电影。

6.4 总体还是值得一看的，那些ins，tiktok甚至b站短视频风的网红审美不是问题，相反正是这些令人眼花缭乱的随大俗的产物将part1保持在了热闹有趣且目不暇接的节奏之中，关键在于到了part2一切都停滞了，核心冲突之浅让整个故事不断的原地踏步，支线内容的发散填充也只会显得愈发疲惫不堪，命题太小而又摆的太高结果就完全刹不住车了。
亲情是一种又痛又不舍的羁绊，在孩子的眼里它被自我怨恨折磨得无法和解，在母亲的心里它被过度亏欠逼迫得只能隐忍。但是亲情这根弦，有时需要一些紧绷和拉扯才能收缩。电影里的她们在天马行空的全宇宙里回望一生，而现实中的我们需要更多的勇气去成全彼此。
设定并不新奇，剧情疯疯癫癫，画面重口三俗，李小龙和太空漫游好评，服装布景特效狠狠秀了一把但有点杂乱。片中说接收信息太多会让大脑超载而挂掉，但片子本身在节奏上让人应接不暇，就有点填鸭使观众大脑超载的感觉，缺少让观众回味的留白，以至于两块石头的场景成我最爱。但这样的呈现方式相当罕见，值得一看。
王家卫镜头神致敬和石头宇宙加一分，在我以为妈妈上楼梯感化众人终将落于俗套之际，最后的意识流和放手又把剧情拉了回来，一切都不重要吗，是的，但对于这个宇宙中我们所爱的人，一切都是那么的重要
啊，这剧本百分之百吸麻吸多了写出来的。想要体验瞬息全宇宙不需要成为杨紫琼，多吸几个麻就有了。for real。
09.04.2022 | @ Regal Gallery Place | 导演前途无量。边看边闪回刚读完的Midnight Library。我爱一切能借星爷的搞笑外壳认真讲好故事的作品，这一部真是好得出乎意料。
多重宇宙的设定还是玩出了新的花样，脑洞大到飞起，甚至有些过头。不过影片探讨的存在主义是我较喜欢的一点，我们究竟如何看待自己失败的人生，如何面对人生中每一步的踩错，又如何拥抱眼前不完美的一切，这部电影还算给出了一个圆满的答案。杨紫琼和关继威的文戏武戏都很出彩，希望能创造历史。
天呐，这就是我梦想中的电影啊，这是属于女性的“超级英雄主义”，我看到了三四十年后我的生活依然会有美好的希望，好羡慕杨紫琼，在这个年纪拥有了属于自己的宇宙，那些迷影的回忆，也是她的精彩人生，好剧本好设定好角色，当然她也值得。
不好看，甚至觉得无聊，对移民题材无感，对超级英雄无感，那个丈夫一讲普通话就像个尖声细嗓的公公，实在是emmm
