The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. When a dinner party conversation leads to an honest discussion about the state of their love life, and when a sexy bikini photo shoot leads to crossword puzzles instead of sex, they begin to flirt with a way to spice things up. 用类似《雨中曲》有声电影冲击情节互文呼应New Era有点老套。但在那个时代看，低廉的电影票价让贵族和仆人在黑暗中坐在一起，是颠覆了政府教会、富人和受教育者的有关道德准则的新时代的象征。继留声机和无线电之后，用“电影”这种大众娱乐来结束唐顿系列也很妙。追了这么久，最后老夫人去世，Thomas找到真爱离开，主题曲起来，还是有触动。所有人都平等爱着且被爱的庄园美梦，很魏玛式乌托邦。
