The Freebie centers on Darren (Shepard) and Annie (Aselton), a young married couple with an enviable relationship built on love trust and communication. Darren and Annie still enjoy each other’s company and laugh at each other’s jokes, but, unfortunately, they can’t remember the last time they had sex. When a dinner party conversation leads to an honest discussion about the state of their love life, and when a sexy bikini photo shoot leads to crossword puzzles instead of sex, they begin to flirt with a way to spice things up. The deal: one night of freedom, no strings attached, no questions asked. Could a freebie be the cure for their ailing sex life? And will they go through with it? With a keen eye and fresh take, Aselton’s directorial debut shines with crisp storytelling and fine-tuned performances. 根据上世纪八十年代发生于南非的真实银行人质劫持案改编。影片整体上还拍得比较流畅，尤其是开头的几个追逐镜头，场景调度非常到位，一气呵成。此案件并非简单的刑事案件，实则是有着强烈的政治背景，劫犯是南非反种族隔离的黑人，提出的条件是释放曼德拉。导演处理起来有些左右为难，既想将这起张力十足的案件拍得好看，又得兼具其政治背景，在剧情中加入许多政治元素，竭力向着有历史感的政治性影片方向引。此片后面显得有些松懈，逻辑上也出现问题，最后喊起了口号。
最终以争取黑人民主自由运动落下帷幕。

不错的片子，甚至不需要艺术加工，能把真实事件完整据实地拍出来就已经足够了。
本片取材于一起真实的案例，发生在南非的一起预谋破坏行动，因为失败而演变成劫持人质案，最终又转变成为一起争取种族民主自由运动。
真实事件改编，节奏感非常好，全程无尿点。

柔化的光线和取景进一步中和了内容的严肃性,增强了可看性。人物关系的叙述取舍得当，以简洁的方式将纯的众多关系网络完整化，为纯和三浦的主线发展留有了充足的叙事空间。基本上属于中规中矩的好。
